There must be an enchantment spell hanging in the air over Discovery Garden! I was immediately mesmerized and charmed by this cute little niche. I found myself looking in all the nooks and crannies, ducking under secret passage ways and walking butterfly labyrinths. I could not contain my excitement of finding what was around each new pathway. I shared the same enthusiasm of my four-year old. Who, by the way, was also spellbound by this whimsical place.

Determining which reading you need can become difficult to navigate at a festival because there are so many booths, readers and options available.  I think in order to get the reading you want, there is one question that needs answered first, “What is the difference between a medium, psychic and intuitive?”

The difference between a medium, psychic and intuitive is that they obtain, process and translate information differently. 

Mediums channel communication from spirit guides, teachers, loved ones and angels.  They then relay the conversations with spirit to the client. Through these messages, from spirit, they are often able to bring peace to those that are grieving a loss of a loved one. A good medium will offer abundant validation that the source of spirit communication is legitimate, this to me is considered “evidential” mediumship.

Psychics work on the psychic plane gathering information from outside themselves.  They then take the information received and interpret it into a message for the client. Psychics have the ability to tap into the past, present and future of their clients. They are often able to help  align your karma so that you don’t have to repeat karmic lessons. A good psychic will offer direct messages that are personal and the translation of the information is clear. (Please remember that the future is ever-changing based on the decisions you make every single day.)

Intuitives have a link between the third eye chakra and heart chakra allowing them to be a neutral observer and energetically read the client. An intuitives information doesn’t come from outside themselves but from a “knowing” within. They are able to report the energetic connections and emotions to issues the client experiences. Intuitives offer insights into possible solutions to issues the client experience.  A good intuitive will be able to offer a healing message that pertains to the client’s situation at hand.

 If you seek information about your past or future, more than likely you would seek a psychic reading. If you want to hear from a loved one or angel, you would seek a medium.  If you want to have insights and guidance to situations, you would seek an intuitive.

It has been said that all mediums are psychic but not all psychics are mediums and intuitives “know” everything.

Now that you are familiarized in the form that you are more likely to receive intuitive information it is time to continue to the next step in building your intuition. The second step to building your intuition is learning how to interpret the intuitive information you are given.

A lot of times intuitive information has been received but it is dismissed. How can you interpret something that was tossed to the side and forgotten about? The experiment below focuses on being able to take in and recall all the intuitive information that you are given during your intuitive guessing.

We will be working with our trusty box of crayons  along with a recording device. If you don’t have a digital recording device, pen and paper will work just fine.

You will need to record all information given during the intuitive guessing time frame.  Recording all the information will allow you to see what was truly intuitive information versus, what I refer to as,  “trying to” information. Trying to information is when the mind reasons and reachs for an answer to a problem or question. Intuitive information isn’t obtained by searching for it. Intuitive information has to be allowed to come to you. 

Experiment 2: Interpreting Your Intuitive Language

Take a box of crayons and spread them out over a table top.  Shuffle them about to mix the colors around.  Close your eyes and pick up a crayon.

Slowly inhale and exhale three times.  Take this time to clear your mind.

As your intuitive language begins to speak to you record whatever you see, hear, touch, taste, feel and think. (If the dog barks in the background record that information too, it might be of use later.)

After you have recorded your intuitive information and formed your color guess be sure to record both your color guess and the actual crayon color.

Do this experiment at least five times. Please don’t concern yourself with the accuracy of the results.  The intention isn’t to test the accuracy of your intuitive guesses; it is to learn how to interpret your intuitive language.

When the experiment is completed look back over the intuitive information that was recorded. What you need to look for is any information that was dismissed but was still valid. For instance, you might have dismissed the dog that was barking in the background, however, your dog is brown and the crayon you picked was brown. By dismissing this information you missed the opportunity to be able to interpret it and guess correctly.

Another example of interpreting your intuitive information incorrectly is when intuitive guessing is out of sync with the timing of your pick. You may find that your guesses were slightly ahead of your crayon picking.  This means on your first crayon pick you may have guessed blue and were wrong, however, the second crayon you picked was actually blue. Your intuition was correct there was a blue crayon during your experiment but it wasn’t in sync with timing of the pick.

The more you do this experiment the better you will become at understanding what is intuitive information versus what is not.  Being able to decipher which information is intuitive is the first step to interpreting your intuitive language.

The way intuition uses a unique language of imagery, words, smells, senses, dreams, memories, knowing and gut feelings.  Intuition guides us by showing us synchronicities, signs and affirmations and by using repetitive thoughts and feelings.

The first step to building your intuitive abilities is to learn which unique form your intuitive language uses to speak to you.

This is where the box of crayons comes in handy! The box of crayons will play a part in an intuitive guessing game. This experiment will lead you to listen to and become more familiar with your intuitive language. Through this familiarity you will learn to discern your intuitive voice from a multitude of other distracting voices that run through your head.

 Experiment 1: Learning Your Form of Intuitive Language

Take a box of crayons and spread them out over a table top.  Shuffle them about to mix the colors around.  Close your eyes and pick up a crayon.

As you hold the crayon in your hand, slowly inhale and exhale three times. I want you to be fully aware of any thoughts you are having during this time. When you are ready guess the color of the crayon.

Please don’t be concerned about the results of this experiment, whether you were right or wrong.  Instead I want you to be able to acknowledge the language in which your intuition spoke to you.  Remember intuition uses imagery, words, smells, senses, dreams, memories, knowings and gut feelings to convey its message to you.

                Did you hear a description?

                Did you see a picture or an object?

                Did you smell anything?

                Did you recall a memory?

                Did you have a gut feeling?

                Did you have a knowing?

It is possible that your intuition did all of these forms of language or a combination of these forms to speak to you.  Continue with this experiment until you have a better understanding of the way in which your intuition speaks. Remember the point isn’t to guess the color of the crayon correctly.  It is to learn your intuitive language.
